Yes we ‘Cannes’ – LK2 celebrates a triumphant week at MIPIM
When we were planning our return to MIPIM this year, we didn’t think we could possibly top the success of our first visit back in 2017. We were wrong – this year absolutely blew us out of the water!
After dipping our toe in the waters last year, we decided that this year we wanted to go with a much more strategic, sector-specific approach to really make the most of the opportunity we had in front of us.
This meant packing our diaries with back-to-back meetings for most of the week, with companies working in retail, sport and education as well as Local Authorities which were particularly high on our ‘hit list’.
In fact, in just over three days in Cannes, the team held more than 120 meetings, and covered more than 200,000 steps, interspersed with some drinks and networking events. One particular highlight was the Greater Lincolnshire LEP brunch, where the famous Lincolnshire sausages went down an absolute treat!
One of the main topics of conversation was our unique StreetLab/SportsLab initiatives, which helps our clients rethink their existing retail space. We also had a number of really positive conversations with universities and Local Authorities about improving sport and leisure facilities.
It was also great to see more women attending this year and leading some of the fantastic panel discussions, such as Denise Lewis OBE, who took part in a panel event discussing the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Now it’s time for us to begin the process of following up on some of the contacts and opportunities from Cannes. Before we set off, we set ourselves a challenge to collect as many business cards as possible - we returned to the UK with more than 160 cards between us, so we’ll be spending the next few weeks making calls and getting those important meetings in the diary.
