LK2 builds on success with second project at Waterside Shopping Centre in Lincoln
LK2 is delighted to announce that it has been named as the lead architect for an exciting second phase of work at Lincoln Waterside Shopping Centre.
High street giants Topshop and Topman will join forces to create a new 11,300sq ft store in the centre, which will open later this year.
The centre’s current escalators will also be removed and a new ‘feature’ staircase added in to help customer flow through the new store.
This follows the first phase of work led by LK2, which completed in 2014, and saw a £9m regeneration programme take place to reconfigure the mall space. The work successfully attracted a number of big brand names to the centre including H&M and Next.
The refurbishment has already achieved accolades within the industry and from the people of Lincoln for considerably improving the retail offering in the city, and was nominated for a prestigious national BCSC Gold award in 2014.
Paul Starbuck, director at LK2 said: “We’re thrilled to be building on our relationship with The Waterside, delivering this second phase of work.
“Before we were appointed to the project, The Waterside no longer provided a standard of retail which was attractive to tenants and had an out of date ‘boutique’ layout. Because of this the centre had an increasing number of vacant units which led to a continued lack of footfall and decline.
“This second phase of work will build on the work we have already completed to help place the centre as the retail heart of Lincoln. Having a large retailer offering men’s and women’s clothing in one place will help cement the centre’s reputation as a retail destination.”
