LK2 Breaks Ground on New Offices
Award-winning Architecture and Sport Consultancy business, LK2, have broken ground on their brand-new office development just north of the city of Lincoln.
The 13,000sqft space, located opposite the Police and Fire headquarters in Nettleham, will offer the firm an expanded office space, having out-grown their existing space on Deepdale Enterprise Park in Lincoln.
LK2 have taken inspiration following the success of their own, recently constructed, offices and designed the new building to reflect this character whilst holding its own distinguished style, utilising coursed Lincolnshire Limestone walls to reflect the distinctive character that is prevalent in the area.
The new development will incorporate the latest technologies, catering for a more digital world and enabling the firm to maintain their green credentials and their target of being paper-free. Taking into consideration modern remote working preferences, the office design includes ‘Zoom booths’, soundproof spaces where users can engage in virtual meetings without the day-to-day office distractions.
Taking to heart one of LK2’s Family values ‘We believe that enjoyment at work is key’ the focus of the internal design is based on the user and creating areas that people want to be in. The light, engaging open spaces will feel more social, encouraging creativity and the firm’s trademark ‘out of the box’ thinking. The airy, open plan feel will maintain collaborative teamwork between the respective LK2 Group companies, LK2 Architects and LK2 Sport & Leisure.
It is evident that staff health & well-being is paramount, with homely meeting spaces and designated ‘break-out’ areas that promote regular screen breaks and even physical activity, encouraging productivity.
As specialised sport and leisure consultants, the firm is mindful of the significant benefits that physical activity brings to the workforce. With that in mind, the new offices, based in a rural location, will offer lunchtime walks and include a health and wellbeing suite including a fully functional gym to promote this. Enclosed in a sleek, soundproof glass encasement, it is hoped that the gym will provide employees the opportunity to take advantage of fitness all-year round.
Endorsing LK2’s Social Values, the new offices will also benefit the local small business community, with the designs encompassing a number of flexible, managed, organisational workspaces that will be designated for multiple third-party users, utilising the office as a ‘base’ for their small and medium sized businesses.
The result of a year of consultation with the firm’s employees, the sleek, office development is being constructed just a stone’s throw from their current building, Studio 2. Project managed by Senior Architectural Technologist, Liam Gladwin, the scheme has been a beneficial learning opportunity for Architectural Apprentice Luke Roberts who is actively supporting in the design of the project.
He said “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to be able to put my theoretical learning into practice by assisting in the design and construction of our new office building in Nettleham. The convenience of the site location means that I have a unique opportunity to see the build progressing day-by-day and to gain an invaluable insight into the on-site construction process. I am looking forward to working in a building that I have been so instrumental in designing”.
The offices are expected to achieve practical completion in the Spring 2022.
