Community Hub Case Study - Borderville Sports Centre
In the first of our mini-series of Community Hub case studies, we expand on our headline Community Hubs article to look back at how we re-shaped the Borderville Sports Centre project into a mixed-use sports, leisure and educational facility which meets the needs of a broad scope of end-users.
Thinking Differently
When LK2 were approached with a plan for a new self-funded, developer-led scheme to create a new ground for Stamford AFC we could see it wasn’t a viable project. A feasibility study confirmed to us the project was commercially unsustainable. But that wasn’t the end of the road as far as we were concerned.
With another partner already on board; Burghley House Preservation Trust (BHPT), we could see there was potential to turn the project around. All we needed was to engage another key partner to create a Community Hub style project.
Approaching New College Stamford we proposed a comprehensive shared sport and education facility which utilised maximum grant alignment, crafted around a sustainable business plan.
By incorporating a new stadium and pitch for Stamford FC with wide ranging community sports and leisure facilities and educational areas for New College Stamford, the current and future needs for areas of a whole community were met.
Put simply, the project benefited more people in more ways.
A New Space for a Whole Community
‘Borderville is a great example of how we at LK2 think beyond design. We are able to enhance projects to the point they attract multi-million pound grant aid, reducing long-term financial risk.
We know collaborative working is the way forward and are always looking for the right mix of partners to create projects which stretch beyond one user group to serve the wider community.’ Adam Skidmore, Director LK2
At LK2 we see further and wider than what is in front of us. Using our expertise and knowledge to craft Community Hub projects which unlock extensive funding to create diverse spaces.
