Bluecoat Sports Expansion Project
LK2 are thrilled to be part of the team preparing for the construction stage of the new external sports facilities at Bluecoat Sports and Christ Hospital School in West Sussex.
LK2 played a key role in achieving planning approval for the school in September 2021 and are now working with the building contractor, client and the wider project team to deliver Phase 1 of the large multi-sport facility expansion across the site.
Phase 1 will include:
- A fully synthetic athletics track designed to meet the performance requirements of England Athletics.
- A new athletics adventure trail will be built alongside the facilities to provide a unique, highly innovative and accessible sport and leisure facility to the school.
- Athletics store building with sustainably sourced materials and Sedum Roof
- Car parking and new access road
- State of the art Padel Court facility
LK2 worked closely with the school and design team from an early stage, identifying opportunities for the site and leading the design process towards a successful planning approval. This has had several positive outcomes:
- All facilities are National Governing Body compliant to ensure Christ’s Hospital School and Bluecoat Sports can use them to their full potential.
- The scheme has been designed with a holistic approach to ensure it is well integrated alongside the existing sports facilities and school campus.
- It meets the bespoke needs of the school, enabling them to tailor and improve their PE curriculum, and providing a high-quality provision for training and competitions.
- The non elite facilities such as the Padel courts and adventure trails to encourage all students of different interests and abilities to get involved with sport and physical activity.
- The combination of elite and non-elite facilities will attract a wider public demographic, supporting the sustainable membership growth for Bluecoat Sports.
