Meet the team - Andy Newman
Our first Meet the team on 2020 features the longest serving member of TeamLK2 - the legendary Andy Newman.
What is your name and position at LK2?
My name is Andy Newman and I am an Associate Director at LK2
What made you want to go into this line of work?
As a young lad I never overly wanted to go into Architecture but always had a fond interest in product and graphic design. I was unhappy in the job I was in and got offered a good opportunity at LK2, so took a chance to change jobs. I got on well and the job fitted my lifestyle. I have been with the company since 2000, and have seen the company grow, a bit like my ambitions, so it was a very good decision to have made a career change all those years ago.
What’s been your top highlight while with LK2?
I have had many highlights whilst working for the company and have met and worked with many great people and companies.
Among my fondest memories are my 1st Christmas doo where we were expecting a turnout of about 10 people but for varying reasons only 4 managed to make it, but a good time was had, completing my Higher National Certificate in Construction which took 4 years, Qualification in Leadership and Management which has allowed me to progress onto managing my own team, projects I have worked on that have gone on to win awards, my 10-year anniversary, the company trip to Barcelona for its 20th year anniversary plus many others which I dare not mention.
But personally, and above all else, I have made some life-long friends in some of my colleagues and consultants who have had a massive influence on the person I am today.
If you weren’t in your current role, what job would you have?
I qualified as an electrician prior to starting in this profession, however that was not for me for various reasons. However, I do enjoy getting my hands dirty on site, so probably in another trade or a care job.
What’s your favourite artist or album?
I love all kinds of music – I was actually brought up on music from the 60s and Meatloaf thanks to my parents. However, as a ‘teenager of the 90s’, I have very fond memories listening to Shed 7, Oasis and Blur. I don’t really have one favourite song or album as it really depends on what mood I am to what I enjoy most at the time.
What do you do at the weekends?
Eat, drink and be merry with my family and friends! We are full time foster carers so always have additional children in the house, whether it be friends, children or our children’s friends. I also enjoy watching and playing sport.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
Take all my family and friends on a holiday of a lifetime. Then if there was anything left put it in a trust fund for the kids.
What’s your favourite meal/food?
I do love a good Indian curry, and a home cooked roast dinner.
