Market Road Football Development Centre
- Client: London Borough of Islington Council
- Location: Market Road, Islington
The new Market Road football centre was officially opened by Arsenal legend Liam Brady on 24th September.
The £2 million scheme includes two resurfaced 11-a-side third generation artificial grass pitches, 3 new small sided pitches and a new modern changing room complex with shower facilities, meeting room and secure storage areas. In addition, the site now also has an improved spectator facility.
The fit for purpose facilities has saved 127 local teams; 99 youth teams and 28 adult teams.
The pitch was originally installed in 1972 and was the first of its kind in the country. The facility had previously received refurbishment, however none provided the facilities or the excellent standard that has just been completed.
The project received grants from Islington Council and the Football Foundation - the UK’s largest sports charity that funds community facilities on behalf of the Premier League, The FA, the Government and Sport England.
