Planning approved for Folly Reach – Isle of Wight

Posted June 22nd, 2015 by LK2 Amy

Full planning was approved on the 9th June 2015 with a unanimous vote from the committee. This follows a 5 year intensive period of surveys and design on this incredibly sensitive river frontage site, located between Cowes and Newport, with areas of protection and a river bank that is a site of special scientific interest. The proposal includes a 4 star boutique hotel, 100 stunning contemporary houses and apartments, and provision to increase employment and leisure uses to raise the profile of this important and high profile destination.

The layout of the residential accommodation takes advantage of the natural site falls in terms of the provision of “upside down living” access at an upper level and large areas of glass to create light, spacious interiors and long scenic river views.

The schemes success hinged on the very careful analysis and treatment of the sites sensitive wildlife and ecology and the successful integration of residential and commercial uses into the sites constraints.
